Ponds | 2015-2025
The Pond Series revisits memories of childhood and adolescence, drawing inspiration from the carefree summers I spent outside the city, surrounded by family, friends, and nature. The pond becomes both a real place and a psychological landscape—a space of freedom, wonder, and belonging to which I find myself continually returning.
Populated by water lilies, koi fish, forests, floating figures, and dreamlike encounters, these paintings blur the boundaries between memory and imagination. The natural world is transformed into an immersive realm where time slows down and everyday concerns dissolve. Water serves as both a mirror and a passage, reflecting the desire to reconnect with moments of innocence, curiosity, and emotional clarity.
While rooted in personal experience, the works touch upon a universal longing for an idyllic place that exists somewhere between memory and fantasy. The recurring motifs of ponds, gardens, forests, and mythical creatures evoke the way childhood memories are preserved and transformed over time—becoming brighter, softer, and more symbolic than reality itself.
Beauty and serenity lie at the heart of the series. Through luminous colour, rich detail, and carefully constructed compositions, the paintings invite contemplation and escape. Beneath their vibrant surfaces, however, is a reflection on nostalgia itself: the human desire to return to a place that can never fully be revisited, yet continues to shape who we are.
The Pond Series celebrates nature, imagination, and the enduring emotional power of memory, offering a vision of tranquility in which the past and present momentarily converge.
